Nadaswaram and Thavil Group
South Indian Classical Music - Carnatic
Main Stage - India / Sri Lanka
Nadaswaram and Thavil Group is a group of Tamil artists with classical Carnatic music going back many generations. Headed by Balamurali, this group brings together artists from across Europe and also from India to play Nadaswaram along with Thavil (Trommel), and other musical instruments on this very special occasion. Nadaswaram is one of the most well known classical instruments originating from South India and belongs to family of instruments known as Mangala Vadya, which means auspicious instruments.
Balamurali, like his ancestors, started learning the music at a very early age and has been trained in traditional singing and playing Nadaswaram. The Nadaswaram and Thavil Goup has been instrumental in bringing this traditional music style to many cultural and social events across the Europe and passing on the tradition to the next generation.
